Hannah Dorman – EP Review

Hannah Dorman New EP – Words

Hannah Dorman WordsYoung songstress Hannah Dorman, made a return to the Under The Radar studios ahead of the release of her long-awaited EP ‘Words’, a collection of four self-penned songs recorded at the world-renowned ACM (Academy of Contemporary Music) in Guildford, which happens to be where Hannah is on her penultimate year of studies.

Hannah is a determined and supremely talented singer song-writer who has been pursuing her dream from an early age writing original songs, and performing in public at every available opportunity.  Nowadays she boasts her own band, a trio of talented young musicians who have elevated her sound to new heights with tight bass, pulsating rhythm section and screaming electric guitar, defining her sound as a blend of pop-folk with strong elements of rock and country.

The first song on the EP is the title track, Words, a raunchy and infectious number riddled with dirty electric guitar riffs and Hannah’s dominating vocals, adorned with some subtle but very effective harmonies.

Next, In My Place, another infectious number with fabulous hooks, memorable choruses, and great meaningful lyrics. Hannah Dorman with band tight shot This number has more of a country feel to it, but rock still runs throughout with Hannah’s masterful vocals and her band’s tight accompaniment.

Bring It Back, track number three in this collection, has more of a lighter, very uplifting pop feel to it with some delicious soulful ‘n funky bubble-gum harmonies on the chorus which stay with you long after the song has ended, and that is always a sure sign of a well produced, well thought out and put together song.  Like that one a lot!

The final offering is Maybe, a thoughtful ballad which starts with a solo acoustic guitar followed by Hannah’s supreHannah Dorman song 1me vocals, which in turn are followed by some masterful harmonies from her band.  This is another one of those songs that stays with you long after it has ended, and as a testament of the quality of Hannah’s song-writing, doesn’t need any more instruments or production… here, the meaning of the phrase ‘less is more’ is truly manifested!

Well done Hannah and her boys, you can be certain that this EP ranks amongst the finest offerings of new emerging artists at the moment, and it should not come as a surprise if some of the more serious and credible radio stations and blogs start to take notice.  Very exciting times indeed!
