Zimbabwean influenced afro beats interwoven with soul
Introducing a very special London-based group of musicians calling themselves Soneni and The Soul led by the charismatic and endearing Soneni Nkomo, a bubbly, eloquent and supreme vocalist who is easily a member of that most distinguished club of World-Class soulful songstresses which include Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, and Mary J Blige.
Influenced by a wide range of artists and musical styles ranging from Jimi Hendrix and James Brown, to Bob Marley and Lauryn Hill, funk to jazz, gospel to house, r&b to afro beats, and always bound together with lots of soul, Soneni and The Soul have developed a unique sound which is memorable, fresh and instantly likable.
Fresh from the launch of their debut 8-track EP “Million Miles Away”, they descended on the Under The Radar studios at Brooklands Radio for a memorable session which was relaxed, professional and enlightening. They performed 3 songs acoustically which were nothing short of perfection, sheer class oozing out of every note.
Their EP is available for download on Bandcamp and you can name your price, so you could have it for nothing if you so choose, but once you hear it, I guarantee you will be more than happy to pay what you can afford.
Below you will find videos of all the three songs from their session plus the show in full for your listening pleasure. I have also embedded the official video of their EP’s title track “Million Miles Away” which is simply magnificent. I hope you enjoy what you see and hear, and if you wish to support Soneni and The Soul, make sure you download their EP and go check them out at one of their forthcoming gigs.
